Lesson Aim and Objectives
Aim - Give you the opportunity to:
  • Use one welding process (physically and/or virtually) to produce a weld in a different position/orientation.
  • Gain knowledge of welding apparatus.

Objectives:
  1. Recall 5 welding consumables for MIG/GMAW process.
  2. List 6 tools/equipment needed to produce a weld specimen successfully.
  3. Produce a vertical up MIG Butt weld in the PF position using VRTEX Simulation Equipment and record results.
  4. Produce a physical MIG weld in the PF (Vertical UP) position and visually analyse the weld for defects.

List any 5 consumables for the MIG/GMAW welding process.

Slide 3 - Open question

  1. Shielding Gas,
  2. filler wire (electrode),
  3. Shroud,
  4. Contact Tip,
  5. Torch Liner
To produce a Butt Weld successfully you need to use tools and equipment. List 6 potential tools/equipment that would be needed to produce this weld.

Lesson RECAP
Aim - Did you have the opportunity to use one welding process (physically or virtually) to produce a weld in a different position/orientation?

Objectives:
  1. Did you recall 5 welding consumables for MIG/GMAW process.?
  2. Have you listed 6 tools/equipment needed to produce a weld specimen successfully.?
  3. Have you produced a vertical up MIG weld in the PF position using VRTEX Simulation Equipment and/or produced a physical MIG weld in the PF (Vertical UP) position.?
